Adventure Outfitters offers the finest and most complete whitewater
instruction in New England. All courses are taught by American Canoe
Association instructors using techniques developed by the ACA, American
Red Cross, and our own staff. Whitewater kayaking, being a highly
technical activity, is not easily self taught. Our classes are small,
with a maximum student-teacher ratio of five to one, so that there
is plenty of opportunity for personal attention. Our goal for in
the Beginner course is to enable you to paddle comfortably and competently
on class 2-3 rivers after completing the weekend. We pack more information
into our courses than other schools. We do this because we feel
that without a complete exposure to all of the aspects of the sport,
a paddler will not have a safe and thorough knowledge of the sport.
We don't want to have you come back to take two or more courses
and spend an additional amount of money, just to have us make more
profit. Our philosophy is that kayaking is a low cost, natural,
lifetime pursuit and our emphasis is on safety, technical skills,
and enjoyment of the experience.
Beginner Whitewater Course
This two-day course is designed for the person who has little or
no whitewater kayak experience. We have designed this course to
provide the basic skills and to ready the boater for paddling Class
2-3 whitewater. We spend the first day in the classroom and on a
pond where the basic strokes and the Eskimo Roll will be demonstrated
and practiced. we spend the second day on a Class 2 whitewater river,
incorporating all the strokes learned on day one with the dynamics
of moving water. The student will also learn the aspects of river
reading along with a thorough knowledge of river safety.
Cost: $175
Rolling Clinic
This half-day course teaches the basics of the Eskimo Roll. We
have designed this course for people wishing to learn a basic whitewater
roll, and will explore the C to C roll as well as the Western Eskimo
Roll
Cost: $50
Intermediate Course
Many people find that after paddling a year or two, they tend to
plateau with their river skills. This two-day course allows intermediate
paddlers with river experience a chance to develop their river skills,
perfect their rolls, learn new and advanced strokes, and to be introduced
to river and hole playing.
Cost: $175
